When the Memphis design movement debuted its first collection, spectators lined up early on to gawk but, aside from a devoted few (Karl Lagerfeld and David Bowie among them), not necessarily to buy. Now the innovative group’s leader, Ettore Sottsass, has reemerged, inspiring Greenpoint ceramicists, Supreme collaborations, and an exhibit at the Met Breuer from July 21 – Oct 8, 2017.
