In a few words:
The Pireos 138 Annexe of the Benaki Museum is housed in a former industrial building and hosts contemporary visual arts, cultural and historical exhibitions, major international shows, and musical performances in the courtyard. The museum has a renovated café and an excellent gift shop.
 

 


Why:
The new Benaki Museum Annexe is located at 138 Pireos Street, one of the central development axes of Athens. Located close to is located the metro station of Kerameikos, the gentrified area of Gkazi is known for its bars and nightlife. The existing Pireos 138 Annexe building is organised around a central courtyard and the rotating temporary exhibitions and performances are always well-attended.

 

 

What you will see:
Beyond Benaki Museum Pireos 138 Annexe’s permanent archival content, the museum’s programme constantly evolves, involving contemporary visual arts, cultural and historical exhibitions, major international shows, and musical performances.
Two major archives that the Pireos 138 Annexe houses are:

  1. The Neohellenic Architectire Archives
    The aim of the architecture archives is to collect, record and classify all information related to modern Greek architecture, urban design and topography, whether printed, visual or oral, including drawings, models, maps, engravings, photographs, manuscripts and letters.
  2. The Benaki Museum’s Photographic Archives Department
    The Photographic Archives Department was established in 1973 to collect, preserve and document photographs of Early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine art and architecture. Since then the Department’s original scope has gradually been extended to cover images of Greece and its culture, as well as its history and contemporary society.

The museum is closed on Monday and the following public holidays:
March 25th, May 1st, August 15th, October 28th, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Epiphany, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Clean Monday, Holy Spirit Day.

Wednesday: 10am – 2pm (upon request)
Thursday: 10am – 2pm (upon request)

Photographic Archives:
Wednesday: 10am – 2pm (upon request)

Full admission: €6 – €8
Combined tickets: If you combine tickets with a Benaki Museum satellite gallery/museum visit, you are entitled to a 20% discount to said visit.
